Double Sided Drawings

Below are two 'double sided' drawings.

They both look like one continuous drawing but then have flaps that reveal a little surprise.

The first one of the fish and crab I did when I was applying to RISD 2 years ago. Its definitely my favorite drawing that I made in high school....during the process of making it I had a huge realization that I was in love with art, (I never knew before!) and that I wanted to be in an art or design career field.

Senior year of high school I did a huge individual project of culminating art and enviornmental science, where I did a marine biology scientific research summer in the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. When I got back to the states I focussed my whole college portfolio on the dissected fish, crabs, and mollusks I studied.

I made this second one during freshman year of college (last year).

Throwing up fabric describes my life then (and now) I think.

Fashion design can be all encompassing.

Flap opens up to reveal some leaves.

'Cause even though I love designing, creating, fashion, and textiles,  nature the environmental is the basis for my work. I think this piece shows me dedicating myself to these two loves.

Wandering

Sometimes often I go wandering at night. Since I live in Brooklyn that pretty much means trying to find creative spots to go to on Pratt campus. My most visited spots include the engine room and the Pratt rooftops.

I don't know how it always happens to me, but I find the engine room unlocked at night all the time, and of course I sneak in (Sorry Pratt!) If you go deep into the ground it looks like the bottom of the Titanic (didn't have my camera with me the few times I went down there but it was really amazing).

Then there are the rooftops. There is something so comforting about just being when you're up there.

Cupcake Doodle

I've been having this reoccurring daydream of eating a cupcake that looks like the picture below all week.

Its so specific and weird, but what I would give for a cupcake with lavender frosting and a raspberry on top.....

Similarly all I could do in world history was doodle girls with lavender curls and puffy dresses....sigh.

Birch Gets Into Mischief

Remember Birch?

Well, today I was going through my hard drive, and I re discovered these precious pictures from last year when Birch was only 7ish months old.

I remember walking downstairs to my basement, and seeing Birch with a giant smirk on his face.

He had dragged all the toliet paper out of the bathroom and was running around with it in his mouth!

(Side note: Can you find Waldo Yodie, my beagle? aha)

These images make my heart swell so hard.

I love quotes, but whenever I read them I feel a sense of intense cheesiness come over me. For some reason quotes often feel fake. I think whenever I see " " I subconsciously think the message  isn't relatable or that its preserved in a glass bottle and can't be examined. I want the above quote to be examined and feel relatable because I think its beautiful and true.

 This post is a little on the spiritual side, but thats just how i've been feeling lately, and this blog is an abstract conglomeration of pretty much anything and everything...so there ya go!
